The Sims game

Hi everyone!

Today I show you a very common and known game, as it is the Sims game.

Without realizing it, in this game are included many geometric aspects, because it is based on it.

It should be noted that when building a house in that game, on the ground appears a grid with which you will guide to create the walls of this, as well as know how much it measures and what things you can fit in any room.

Also during the game appears different geometric figures as for example that which is located abge the head of the doll, which is a ortoedro:

With this game, the students could learn the scales, because the teacher could warn them that each square that appears in the ground would correspond to 100 centimeters (scale 1:100), as well as to calculate perimeters and real areas with the game.

In addition, students will later be able to check the results in 3D, thus increasing their motivation.

This activity could be carried out in class, adapting it for example to that the students should make a plane previously by hand on a paper.

The downside of this is that gambling costos a lot of money.

The seven tiles game

Hello everyone!

Today I bring you another game called "The seven tiles" and consists of a puzzle whose pieces as it is intuited, are seven and form among them three squares:

With these pieces, you can do a series of activities related to the areas of the polygons.

One of the games consists of figuring out the area of each of the shapes to get the area of the big square.

It is a good way to see the students who decomposing the figures can find the area of those older figures or that can be complex.

Deck of cards of quadrilaterals

Good morning everyone!

Today I bring you a resource to work in geometry lessons, which consists of a deck of 64 card of quadrilaterals. In these letters appear the most known quadrilaterals, which are the next:
- Square
- Parallelogram
- Rectangle
- Trapeze
- Rhombus
- Kite
In the rest, some properties of these quadrilaterals appear.

With them, students will play in groups of four players maximum to a style of "chinchón" in which each will have 8 cards and there are a lot of cards in the center and next to it, a card face up (which is the dismiss pile. The pupil, in his turn, will have the opportunity either to take a letter of the heap or to catch the one that is face up, discarding later a card of his deck, having always in this eight cards.

The purpose of this game is to get several families with the cards.

With this game, students will be able to reinforce what they learned about these types of quadrilaterals, as well as some of their properties, thus obtaining a better classification of these.

You can see the deck of cards in the next link:

Traffic signs

Hello everyone!

Today I will talk about the relation between the traffic signs form and geometry, because these have different geometrical forms. Between them, we can find triangles, squares, rectangles, circles... having each of them a different meaning.

But there are specially two traffic signs, which possess a different form to the others and make them easy to recognize. These are the "ceda el paso" and "STOP" signs. Both signs are collected within the priority signs and are considered one of the most important and essential, therefore the need to recognize in a fast and simple way.

Specifically,  the "STOP" sign, a few centuries ago in USA possessed a different way: it was in the form of square, small and white. Later, with the appearance of several more traffic signs, the need to modify this sign arose. It was when it was decided to use the octogonal form with its name placed in the center.

But, why this form? The reason is that this form is easy to recognize independently of the climatic condition there is.

In addition, it can be recognized from behind, being able to know to the perfection that those who must stop are the rest of drivers, that is to say, that you have priority.

The same goes for the "ceda el paso" sign, as it is the only inverted triangle-shaped sign.
